Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty: Refreshed and Youthful Eyes
Do your eyes show signs of aging that don’t align with how you feel? Upper eyelid blepharoplasty, also known as an ‘eyelid lift’, or a ‘bleph’, can renew the balance between your inner energy and your outward appearance.
As time passes, your eyelids may begin to sag, leading to a tired and aged appearance. Excess skin and fat deposits around your eyes obscure your expressions and affect how others may perceive you. Upper eyelid blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that addresses these issues, restoring a youthful and awake appearance to your eyes.
What to Expect During Your Consultation:
Consultations will take place in the office for local patients, or over a virtual video call for out of town patients. During your 30 minute consultation, Dr. Satterfield will review your concerns, perform a thorough exam, and discuss what treatment options are most appropriate. She will review both surgical and non-surgical options, that can help you reach your individual goals. Risks, benefits and alternatives to each potential procedure(s) being considered will be discussed and customized to each patient, their anatomy and medical history. Ample time will be allowed for discussion and questions with Dr. Satterfield.
Our goal is for you to leave the consultation feeling empowered with your options, while having a solid understanding of the considerations for each treatment (for example, more dramatic results usually call for a more extensive recovery).
After the consultation, should you have further questions, our office is happy to answer further questions over email, by phone or video call, or even with a in-person follow up consultation with Dr. Satterfield.
Creating Precise Results with Upper Eyelid Surgery:
The primary objective of upper eyelid rejuvenation is to create eyes that appear refreshed and bright, all while maintaining your natural look. This procedure demands an in-depth understanding of the aging process and the characteristics of a youthful appearance.
Modern upper eyelid blepharoplasty focuses on conservatively addressing excess upper eyelid skin while enhancing the outer eyebrow and upper eyelid region’s volume. This approach avoids aggressive removal of skin, muscle, and fat, which can lead to hollowing and an unnatural appearance.

Complementary Procedures to Blepharoplasty:
-
Lower Eyelid Blepharoplasty
Lower Eyelid blepharoplasty may include fat transposition, fat excision, fat grafting, skin excision or even midface lifted when necessary. As the skin around the upper and lower eyelids ages at the rate, this is one of the most complementary procedures to upper eyelid surgery.
-
Brow Re-Contouring (Brow Lifting):
This procedure targets the sagging skin and wrinkles on the forehead, as well as hooding around the eye corners, effectively lifting and smoothing the brow area for a refreshed appearance. Dr. Satterfield has expertise in all types of brow lifting from minimally invasive to tasteful maximal lifts. Dr. Satterfield’s approach tailored to each patient for the most natural looking results possible for every eyebrow-type. Restoring Lost Facial Volume:
Injectable Fillers or Fat Transfer: At the time of surgery, volume replacement can be performed to restore lost facial volume associated with aging. Volumizers like hyaluronic acid or calcium hydroxyapatite are an excellent non-surgical option that last approximately 1 year. A more long-lasting permanent solution is facial fat grafting. We can take fat from undesirable locations and transfer to the face as a long-lasting permanent volumizer. Microfat (small fat particles) and Nanofat (growth factors and stem cells isolated from fat) can be injected like filler into targeted areas. This not only restores volume but transfers stem cells that brighten eyes, improve dark circles, and enhance skin quality.
-
Laser Resurfacing:
A specialized laser microscopically injures the skin in a controlled fashion, activating stem cells to produce new skin and collagen. Moreover, this reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and it also evens skin texture and tone. This results in a more youthful appearance and improved tone of the skin.
-
Chemical Peels:
Chemical peels work by causing a controlled-depth injury to the top layers of the skin. This results in the sloughing of old, unevenly pigmented skin. Then, once the peel completes, new radiant underlying skin is revealed. Chemical peels result in improvement in skin texture and tone, with increased levels of skin collagen.
-
Radiofrequency Microneedling:
Radiofrequency microneedling involves creating tiny superficial injuries to the skin combined with heating of deeper layers of the skin. This results in promotion of collagen formation and improved skin texture and tone.
Anesthesia Options for Upper Eyelid Blepharoplasty:

What is Typical Downtime and Recovery Like?
After surgery, patients typically experience very little discomfort. You can control any discomfort with over-the-counter Tylenol (acetaminophen). Most patients have 2-5 days of downtime, with significant bruising and swelling resolving over 1-2 weeks. Read more about the recovery process.
